What to have on hand

For the most optimal learning experience, be sure to have the following items on hand for your on-site lesson:

DSLR or Mirrorless Camera
Wide Angle (16-35) and Standard Zoom lens (24-70 or 24-120). If you don't have these, lenses with similar zoom ranges will work as well.
Tripod
Memory Card, Charged Battery & Lens Cloth
Polarizer & Neutral Density Filters (not required but great to have to get the most out of your images)
Micro Spikes for your Sneakers/Boots (not required, but they act as sandpaper on the wet rocks to ensure you will not slip.)

Coastal Clicks Photographic Adventure

Whether you just picked up your first camera and need help understanding the how’s and why’s, or you're a hobbyist who is looking to expand their skills into more dreamy long exposure scenes, I will help you learn.

Join me for a 1-on-1 photo workshop in one of the two most beautiful places the state has to offer. These workshops will be tailored to your specific experience level within photography. Come with me and let me show you the magic this area has to offer.

You will have a choice of two beautiful places to explore and capture golden hour and sunset images.

Jamestown - We will visit Taylor Point to get views of the Newport Bridge and Beavertail State Park to capture waves crashing on the rocks and views of the lighthouse as the sun sets and casts beautiful light on the scene.

Newport - We will visit Brenton Point State Park (alternate is Sachuest Point) to capture some classic seascape images then visit the amazing Castle Hill Lighthouse as the sun sets to capture one of the most iconic RI views.

You will learn some or all of the following depending on what you are looking to accomplish with the workshop and your current level of photography knowledge. My goal is to have you leave your time with me with a better understanding of how to evaluate and photograph a seascape scene (many of the instructions apply across all landscape photography and not just seascapes.)

Shooting in manual mode (including all manual controls)
Lens selection for composition and lighting
Creating stunning compositions (rule of thirds and simplicity)
Using foreground elements to make an impactful image
Capturing wide seascape images
Capturing more intimate or abstract images
Creating panoramic images
Filters - how and when to use them
Technical tools (e.g. bracketing, focus stacking, etc.)

We will meet up 2 hours before sunset at a designated place and discuss any questions you may have and continue shooting until approximately 1/2 hour after sunset depending on the conditions that night.
