Franconia's Furnace

The Franconia blast furnace was first built in the 19th century along the Gale river. It remains the last blast furnace standing in New Hampshire. While the furnace is a neat looking structure, I drove by it countless times before stopping to photograph it. I knew it needed the perfect conditions to make a compelling image. One early fall morning when driving to a nearby pond I noticed the great color and fog hanging around. It didn't take much to convince myself to turn around and take a few moments to see if I could find a nice image. As you can see, the stop was certainly worthwhile.
